Searching for new collection inspiration isn’t always easy, and (unfortunately) isn’t something that just jumps out and hits you in the face - especially when suffering from the designer’s version of writer’s block. Other times it’s a no brainer and naturally progresses from a style we have been obsessing over for a while. In this instance the Marocchino collection freely flowed from our ‘thing’ for the unique style, geometric patterns and exotic colours found in Morocco.

After locking in the collection theme it’s time to get down to business. Researching a collection theme is hugely important to us and is something we put a lot of time and incredible thought into. We strive to create an accurate representation of our theme through pattern, colour and texture and we want each piece to tell a story, which we carry right through to the naming the finished product. Our Marocchino collection tells the story from intricate plaster work on the walls of the Moroccan buildings to the shadows cast on the wind swept sand dunes as the sun sets in the desert.

With so many ideas on board after all this research, it’s time to offload them to someone who can really bring it to life. We are so lucky to have the talented Emma Jennings as a part of this process to create our hero print for each collection. She takes all our wildest concepts and references to paper and paints for us something we couldn’t have ever imagined! In this case the Riad print, presenting a snippet of Moroccan luxury with a play on the fusion between intricate and bold motifs and textures in both sunset and emerald colourways.

A particular favourite from this collection is the Rabat pale ocean bedcover. Rabat, the modern capital of Morocco has long been known for its trade and production of textiles, including embroidery. The new Rabat embroidery is characterised by dense geometric or floral motifs, heavily embroidered on an open weave material (cotton or linen). This traditional embroidery technique has been honoured on this highly decorative bedcover. An absolute heirloom piece.
